Frameless.

Growing up my summer vacations were spent rock-hounding. My mother, a geologist, would lead our efforts crawling around on a farmers land, or kneeling besides a fresh road-cut. All these spots were found by word of mouth or old field notes. I made my first sculpture from stone we collected, I can still recall the weight in my hands, it pushing back as I pushed upon it.

Often we were seeking minerals, which became her passion, it was at a gem and mineral show that I was first introduced to selenite, I was spellbound.

In pre-Colombian times selenite was used for windows as a form of glass. It’s very compelling in the way it captures light, its perfect termination and phantoms within. Those must have been incredible rooms. They are frameless windows, each perfect sculptures in their own right.

This series started in 2018 and is in progress.
